An optic device uses optics to manipulate or detect light. When a disc is inserted into an optical driver, the optic device uses a laser to illuminate the surface of the disc. As the disc spins, the laser reflects off the surface and is picked up by the lens, which focuses the light onto a sensor. This sensor detects changes in the intensity of the reflected light, which correspond to the data encoded on the disc.
