Twiggy Freedom, 2021

I wanted to make something which resembled a wall mural, inspired by walking around the city streets where I live, and seeing graffiti in the laneways and on sides of buildings. The focus is arguably the greatest face of 1960s fashion, the iconic model and actor Lesley Hornby (1949- ) known professionally as ‘Twiggy.’ This period in popular culture represented freedom and modernity. In contrast it is also inspired by the Berlin wall, which was erected in 1961 to separate West Berlin from the rest of Germany; a restriction which remained in place until 1989.
