This is a digital painting of Kodo Sawaki a Soto Zen teacher from the 20th century. The state of mind that is required to sit zazen for hours is very difficult and has always impressed me. With all the senses open and observing, moments of blissful stillness can come and last for long stretches of time.
This piece is showing that exact moment when the stillness hits. This is a glimpse of life that many people will never see. I regard practicing zen meditation a key to living the best life possible in a world filled with sleeping zombies.
I have painted this in Procreate.
