Red Forest Fires

Forest wildfires had began to spread in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone by the 4th of April 2020. By April the 13th the fire had reached the notorious Red Forest near the Chernobyl power plant. Wildfire had devastated 20 ha. of forest, had destroyed 12 abandoned villages and a military town, had got dangerously close to Pripyat suburbs and to the radioactive waste storage “Podlesny”. Half of the Red Forest had been burned down — effectively sending radioactive ashes up to the air once again. Wildfire has been brought under control by April the 14th thanks to the night rain. 2020 was no joke.
