Marilyn (Tropical Punch), 2021

Another outtake from during the period I was creating the ‘Marilyn Morph I’ collection. This one is reworked inspired by vintage travel adverts, posters and passenger/shipping line brochures spurned by the huge holiday leisure industry of the very prosperous and aspirational post-war years. Again there’s influence of the great 1940s and 1950s lavish Hollywood movies/musicals; such as ‘South Pacific.’ There is a long history of the middle class obsession with making what would normally be culturally different and therefore shunned, palatable by transformation to the ‘exotic’, to make it acceptable.
