‘Marilyn (Exotic Burlesque), 2021

Another outtake from during the period I was creating the ‘Marilyn Morph I’ collection. This one is reworked at a meeting point between tropical and burlesque, evoking classic Hollywood movies/musicals of the 1940s and 50s like Carmen Miranda’s starring vehicles, and also the classy strip showgirls/pinup models of yesteryear where the performance accent was on fashion, props and tease rather than raunch. Gypsy Rose Lee, Blaze Starr, Bettie Page and Tempest Storm were also on my mind while creating this piece. They were sassy, classy and a lil’ bit assy!
