spring mountaineering on mount ida was routine. nothing particular of note, just another day out enjoying nature and moderate adventure with friends in june(twenty seventeen).
the concept for ida came from looking at old photos and wanting to tell a story about my favorite time of the year. the photos captured typical behind the scenes stuff, but what stuck out is the variable terrain. hiking 10+ miles round trip is normal and so is wearing running shoes for the majority of it. the rocky ground in the bottom photo is a stark reminder of the how interesting our setups are. for example, i'll carry my snowboard boots strapped to my snowboard, which is strapped to my avalanche pack.
