Suruwahá Indigenous Territory, State of Amazonas, Brazil, 2017. Their population of 154 continues to grow (there were just one hundred of them in the 1980s). This singularly healthy community produces all the foods its members consume and are very proud of their well-honed farming techniques. The Suruwahá are also a completely anarchic society. They have no leaders and do not submit to leadership. Their radical egalitarianism permits no forms of authority, which distinguishes them from other peoples: decisions of common interest are made at night, after supper, in open conversations.
