Omuraisu

Omuraisu, short for omelete rice, is fried rice wrapped in a thin egg omelete. It is usually shaped like an American football and garnished with ketchup or demi-glace sauce. It is common diner food, although specialty omuraisu restaurants also exist. The japanese movie Tampopo dedicates a whole chapter to the making of a typical Omuraise, when the son of the main character and a homeless chef break into a restaurant kitchen and secretly cook. A mouthwatering little episode you shouldn’t miss.
