Oden is a nabe dish prepared with various fish cakes, daikon, boiled eggs, konnyaku, kombu seaweed, etc. slow simmered in a soy sauce based soup.
You can order the swimming (or diving) goodies directly off the huge pot, which the chef permanently observes and refills according to requirements and with the best judgment. Traditionally, oden comes with nothing else than a sip of the soup and a chunk of “nose biting” mustard.
Due to its popularity, oden is even available at convenience stores during the winter.
