Dost Mohammad, father of five, has been selling birds at the bazaar of Kabul for the past 10 years. Swallows, nightingales, canaries- any bird that sings... At the time of the Taliban, this commerce was forbidden because “living creatures should not be locked up in cages”. At that time, Dost closed up his shop and decided to return to his village to till the soil. Today, he has returned to his shop, his birds and his customers. (2001)
