Dustfall - 50/50

This is the largest and most detailed Milky Way I have ever created. I shot Dustfall using a star tracker, an astro-modified DSLR, and an 85mm lens. I shot the Milky Way over multiple nights under star-studded, velvety black skies. The image is created using 14 panels for the sky and multiple panels for the mountain foreground as well. The mountains were shot at dawn on a single morning, and I utilized stacking software (combining multiple images) to minimize noise and maximize detail.

On December 7th 2022, Mars and our moon came together in a glorious conjunction. What a special moment to witness and capture! This is the first open edition I’ve ever done. I’ve chosen to name it Calamity after a character/entity in one of my favorite books.

Calamity is the name of a devastating red star that appears in the sky in the The Reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson. This strange celestial object bestows humans with supernatural abilities, and curses them with a hellish desire to dominate mankind. These super-humans are called Epics.
