The 21st century is the first golden age of space exploration and of artificial intelligence. In addition to viewing space exploration archives through the lens of artificial intelligence, one of the goals of this series is to address the idea of looking at humanity “from outer space.”
UMAP Sculptures are AI data paintings that simulate a latent walk in a data universe of all the images and spoken words from the mission, as the space travelers were looking at the world from outer space. They combine Anadol’s vision of handling data within its own universe with his approach to data visualization’s latent space as a locus for self-generating expansion, like that of the universe.
