Marlene Revisited (Cakes), 2010

In my earlier years I was obsessed with this still of Marlene Dietrich from the classic western film 'Destry Rides Again' (1932). It's the movie that bore the famous line "there's gold in them thar hills." In the late 1980s I made dozens of works using this image. In 2010 I was cataloguing my archive and I thought "I could make these now digitally, I mean why not do it and see how they turn out?" So I did. With a 20 year gap.
