On May 22, 2010, Bitcoin was used as a means of payment for the first time. Developer Laszlo Haniez paid 10,000 BTC for two large pizzas. Bitcoin was worth a tiny fraction of a cent in those days, and the guy thought it was a good idea. He wanted to be the first person in history to buy a real product for cryptocurrency. These were the most expensive pizzas in history. That day went down in history, and every May 22 people compare the "bitcoin" rate and calculate what they could buy with that money today. Exact numbers are hard to come by, but Laszlo could buy seven penthouses in New York City, fly into space a thousand and a half times and buy about a thousand Ferrari cars in 2021.
