In this Dark Wood,
The Beech and the Ivy
Sandra Ireland
In this Dark Wood with roots entwined,
We’re looking for the sky.
Climbing up, you and me,
On and up so high.
Together here for many years,
We’ll be there bye and bye.
You climb up and hold on tight
Then you’ll reach the light
Imagine me without you,
In this cold Dark Wood.
Please don’t go away,
I don’t think you should.
Just remember how it is,
After every stormy night,
The gentle breeze blows clouds away,
And lets in all the light.

The trees in Dark Wood have close relationships.
None more than the Beech and the Ivy.
The song of the Beech is a lovely example of their symbiotic life.
