Estate of Joseph Niépce (Burgundy) - 1826 or 1827
The world's first photograph was taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1826 or 1827. It was captured using a technique called heliography. The photo was taken from an upstairs window. Heliography produces only one copy so there are no duplicates of the print, as of 2020 University of Texas-Austin held custody.
