“Mr. Slip reads Voltaire” draws it's roots from of 17th century artistic movements in Italy (artists such as Caravaggio and Bernini) and ties those references together with a modernist twist. Here, the subject (rabbit) looks in askance at modern symbology but is simultaneously distracted by the thought of hamburgers. This is a reference to the unbroken distractions of modern society and struggle we all face to recapture our time.
