“Ghostbusters” was filming late into the evening in uptown Manhattan. The shoot, involving New York Police motorcycles, had just wrapped. Dan Aykroyd suggested that he, Bill, and Ernie Hudson should take the bikes on a joyride around Central Park.
Dan looked to Bill, the resident troublemaker, for his opinion. After a long pause, Bill replied, “We’re kind of auxiliary… like volunteers.” Aykroyd exclaimed, “With that, we grabbed those bikes and screamed across Central Park… lights and sirens... and then Bill started pulling over pedestrians.”
Bill shrugged and explained, “We were helping out.”
