After the foursome destroys the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Murray is the only one of the Ghostbusters who emerges not covered head to toe in marshmallow.
Bill Murray thinks that sometimes jokes can be more subtle. So while the new recruit and the two guys who are the heart of the operation get completely mallow'd, the easygoing, free-wheeling character escapes harm. "I figured, I'm the one who got slimed early on."
Ivan Reitman always second-guessed not covering Bill with fluff, "He always escaped consequences," said Reitman, "It's a metaphor for Bill's real life. Still, I should have done it. Covering him in slime was delicious and became such an iconic moment."
