In 1980, a troubled Bill Murray made an appearance on The David Letterman Show to air a grievance. Bill confided that he believed Phil Donahue was dating his grandmother.
“There is a very real possibility that Phil Donahue is seeing my grandmother. This bluebeard is running around, you know, getting her address off of Reader’s Digest's mailing list. He’s riding commuter trains, scoring with older women, all for a copy of his autograph book. It’s sick.”
Even though Bill admitted he’d never seen Phil Donahue with his grandmother, Letterman concluded that the evidence was overwhelming.
