Aoraki

I love this mountain. About two hours drive from my doorstep it is my adventure playground. I am mesmerised by it every time I visit. The Name ‘Aoraki’ is believed to mean "Cloud Piercer”, a romantic rendering of the name's components: ao (world, daytime, cloud, etc.) and raki or rangi (day, sky, weather, etc.). I loved creating this piece. It’s the viewpoint of driving into Aoraki when you first lay eyes on the majestic mountain. I wanted this image to capture that feeling of awe as you approach the mighty peak.
