Jebena

The moment is early morning, just after sunrise. The city is still asleep, and the only smell present is that of the Jebena* and Bakhoor**. The smell fills the air, creating a heady and stimulating mix. The coffee is served hot and sweet, and the first sip is always the most satisfying. As the sun rises, the city comes to life and the moment is paused till sunset. *Jebena/جبنة is traditional Sudanese coffee. Dark roast coffee is boiled with a traditional mix of spices and water to create a very rich and thick drink.
