The Cleopatra, Gonepteryx cleopatra butterfly is one of the most striking butterflies you will see. A spectrum of yellow, green and orange decorate its body and wings. Intricate veins map the wings of this butterfly giving an almost leaf like appearance.
The Cleopatra butterfly inhabits open woodland and scrub. The flight period is from May to August in most parts of its range, except Spain, where it is double brooded and may fly almost all year. This butterfly is not found in the UK and this particular species was photographed in the Peloponnese region of Greece.
