This piece is meant to challenge American exceptionalism, overconsumption, and the pursuant of idealistic luxury lifestyles. I also questioned the moral foundation of the generally accepted definition of “success”, and it’s association with financial wealth as a reward for accomplishing a goal. It seems we are more inclined to accomplish our goals if a financial incentive is apparent. What does that say about our lives? Do we exist simply to work and consume? Of course, I have my own opinions on these concepts, but it’s really up to you to determine how you define success, and where you draw the line between stability and absurdity in your own life.
