When Malevich created White on White the art world changed. A divide between how talented an artist is, and what an artwork makes you feel was created. The people who don’t understand it simply say “Anyone could paint a white square” but what they fail to see is the message behind the art and the time period in which it was created. In 1918 when it was created, this was the contemporary and forward-thinking art of the time, not just the abstract style that we’re familiar with today that carries multiple meanings.
