The Georges Fire burns in the eastern Sierra near Mount Whitney Portal and the Manzanar Internment Camp, July 2018. The blaze was stoked by strong Mono Winds, pushing fire across sparsely populated and vegetated hillside, but causing a rapid rate of spread.
I drove up to this fire in the middle of the night, staying up until dawn on the journey to capture fire behavior in a new region I hadn’t yet covered for the Terra Flamma project. The blaze was visible from the town of Lone Pine, a burning mountain dancing in the night from miles away.
