Erykah Badu, Seattle, September 6th, 1997

Erykah Badu headlined the "Big Smooth Cool Out Day" at Myrtle Edwards Park on the Seattle waterfront. It was an r&b festival put on by some promoters I knew, so they asked me along to take some photographs for them. This was her first tour, promoting her debut LP "Mama's Gun." At this point in time, I had heard her name, but really had no idea what she sounded like or what I was in for. Needless to say, I was entirely blown away. To me, this photograph truly shows off her beauty and soul, and her passion for performing. It's all about those fantastic, warm eyes looking out adoringly at her audience.
