After the Black Hole of Calcutta tragedy, a furious Clive and Warren Hastings led an attack against the Nawab of Bengal. They replaced him with a puppet leader, Mir Jafar. Clive and Hastings turned on the French in Bengal and drove them out. The British East India Company was granted the right to tax farm Bengal. Clive drained the Kingdom dry, enriching Britain and himself. His home in Wales, Powis Castle, holds more Mughal Empire artifacts than the National Museum in New Delhi.
