"Baba Yaga," is a popular name used to describe a Russian witch that lures children into her home to devour them. She surrounds her home with the human remains of her victims and has been mythologized as living in this world and the next. The actual Russian equivalent of the term "boogeyman," however, is BABAI. It is a spirit of darkness, an imaginary creature of the night that parents call upon to frighten and intimidate naughty children.
