Lord of the Dark Heavens (Xuantian Shangd) - Chinese deities 1

The 'Lord of the Dark Heavens' is a heroic figure, a warrior deity sent to Earth to vanquish evil and to protect humanity from evil forces. Finding enlightenment on China's Wudang Mountain, the home of Taoist martial arts, he is Master of the 36 Celestial Armies sent by the Jade Emperor in Heaven to keep the Earth free from the forces of darkness. He is worshipped throughout the Chinese cultural diaspora. This statue is located in The North Pole Pavilion on the Lotus Pond in Kaohsiung, South Taiwan.
