Mahalakshmi is a reimagination of the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi, the god of wealth, good fortune, success, and abundance. She is often seen emerging from a lotus which is a symbol of fertility and purity.
Maa Lakshmi is worshipped during Diwali—the festival of lights. It is to commemorate the victory of good over evil and light over darkness, that every home is decked with diyas (oil lamps made of clay), candles, and string lights.
On the occasion of Diwali, Maa Lakshmi is said to visit every household and bestow prosperity and wealth upon her worshippers.
