Standing and sitting at a window, this mother-to-be quietly watches the world.
This piece was created from direct observations with a pregnant life model posing for a total of 3 hours. She switched at 5 minute intervals from sitting to standing at the studio window. Daylight was the only light source.
Blue soft pastel was laid down under a black charcoal layer and smoothed to create a deep, matt expanse. Using my reverse drawing process of rubbing back through the pastels, I gradually revealed the white paper beneath and the image of the model developed.
