They say before the big boats docked at the shores of my country,
Our women were in bondage,
They speak of the African woman like she is a slave to her father,
Confined to kitchen sheds and bedrooms for the pleasure of her husband,
But did you hear the story of Efunsetan?
A woman in my city who once led wars,
She took thrones from able-bodied kings and reigned over their kingdoms,
Her wealth gave great Ibadan a civilization,
Efunsetan roared with the confidence of a thousand men and ruled with the terror of an entire army,
How did we reduce such great piece of history to a trifling statue?
