Ancient people revered sapphire, with its deep blue color that reflected the blue of the sky, the blue of the earth, and the blue of the universe, as a sacred stone close to god. It was therefore a gemstone closely associated with the clergy, philosophers, and sages. Sapphires were also believed to protect the wearer from malice and harm, ward off disease, and bring wisdom and truth, and were worn by royalty and monarchs from ancient times.
