Havasu Falls is situated within the Havasupai Indian Reservation, which has been inhabited by the Havasupai tribe for over 800 years.
The name "Havasupai" means "people of the blue-green waters" in the native language of the Havasupai tribe. The vibrant blue-green color of the water is due to its high mineral content, particularly calcium carbonate, and magnesium.
A flash flood in 2008 drastically changed the landscape around Havasu Falls, creating two new waterfalls (Upper and Lower Navajo Falls) and altering the course of Havasu Creek.
