Lasting Winter

Cascade Dreamscape From a solo backpacking trip in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA, I spent three days slowly meandering about this frozen landscape enjoying the solitude that accompanied it. No other soul was seen during these days, but I wasn't truly alone because a family of mountain goats watched my every move. They would follow me as I walked up the icy slopes of the peak overlooking the alpine lake paradise, lay down as I took a seat to take in the atmosphere of this magical landscape, and they would awake me from my naps as they would sniff and bite my tent trying to get any morsel of salt that they could.
