Spend enough time in any web3 community where NFTs are discussed, and you inevitably will encounter someone asking some version of "What's the utility?" You may even note an overwrought community manager or mod responding with a terse disclaimer along the lines of "There is no utility." That is to say, the token in question is purportedly useless.
But what both the question and the answer ignore is the fact that tokens by their very nature are signs, symbols, emblems onto which anyone, anywhere can project whatever meaning or utility they wish. They don't need to be the creator of the token. They don't need to be an owner of the token. They don't need to ask for anyone's approval.
