His birthplace is in the Lazio region of central Italy, and he is renowned as "the seraphic doctor." St. Francis of Assisi, in answer to the child's mother's pleas, prayed for John's recovery from a grave sickness and, foreseeing the young John's future greatness, gave him the name Bonaventure. He was an Italian Franciscan theologian and philosopher of the Middle Ages who worked in the Scholastic movement. He was the Cardinal Bishop of Albano as well as the seventh Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor.
