This character is inspired by a Dominican farmer. The land that she farmed on was being taken away and after physically fighting for it, she was found dead. She is a very dear icon to the working class community in the country. A leader to many for her courage and her fight against the twisted reality of how landlords would treat the poor people that lived off the land. Today, she has inspired documentaries, streets named after her and a statue commemorating her in her hometown. She reminds me of my family's upbringing. She can easily be a representation of both my mother or grandmother, because of her character and her believes. She is a hero for the people, Mamá Tingó.
