Alfred Boucher 1850-1934 patron and sculptor purchased the Rouche with the intent of helping poor but talented artists who came to Paris from all over the world and offer residents models and an exhibition space. Those who lived in La Ruche had to pay a very low rent that young artists almost never paid, but Alfred Boucher never solicited or kicked out anyone.
