Reaching high into the clouds, these towering spruce stand watch as gnarled remnants of branches tell stories of the wild winter storms that pass. Being among these moss-covered sentinels as the thick coastal fog embraced me, I realized how lucky I was to share that moment with them as the noise of the outside world ceased to exist. Inevitably each will fall and succumb to these storms but nurture new generations of life by providing habitat and sustenance for the diverse ecosystem below.
