During the Renaissance era, women lived a life inferior to men even through half a century of Queens. In this time period, outspoken women were unheard of and were disapproved. Joan of Arc was charged of seventy counts of felony which included witchcraft, heresy and cross dressing. When she was 19, she was burnt at a stake for being a witch in front of a 10,000 people crowd. Later in 1920 she was canonized by Pope Benedict XV as a saint. She was the national heroine of France at a time when she led the French army to victory over the English at Orleans.
