(Ilocano: Siring) The stories of the Sirena are thought to come from the rural Ilocanos. They are the queens of the rivers, said to exhibit a hypnotizing charm over vulnerable fishermen to lure and drown them. Depending on the story, the Sirena would take sides to guard the waters of their local people against invaders from neighboring islands.
