The doors of the cinema were a portal to another dimension. Entering the cool, popcorn-scented air was an immediate reprieve from the street odours and hot concrete outside. The darkness of the theatre, sweet and salty concession snacks, and hot dogs served with more raw onion than ideal for close-seated patrons. Each show was a double feature on a bright screen to magically teleport to somewhere else. Even if only for a brief time.
