Four Pillars
Four concrete stilts balanced the house that perched taunting the mangrove. The sticky mystery-filled water could swell its banks to kiss the toes of this block building. From the window, you could often see a caiman lurking beneath the upside-down roots of the mangrove. Finger-like snakes frozen in shock. A rustle of leaves gave flight to a spray of pink ibis. Crickets, frogs, and cicadas serenade nightly. The breeze was the only constant visitor, a reminder to be still and remember the things people forget.
