inspired by the installation of ceramic poppies, ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ that marked the centenary of the First World War at the Tower of London in 2014, i present my own artistic creation, ‘blood swept sands and streets of Gaza’.
transposing the symbolism of the resilient poppy from the historical battlefields of Flanders to the contemporary, rubble-filled streets of Gaza. in Palestine, the poppy holds profound significance as one of the national flowers, its blooming colors – red, green, black, and white – mirror those of the Palestinian flag. it's often displayed as a sign of solidarity with Palestinians and stands as a symbol of their deep-rooted connection to their land - a...
