Lorenzo II grew up in the shadow of his grandfather Lorenzo the Magnificent, the original Lorenzo de’ Medici, who he’s sometimes confused for. He lived a short but eventful life of 26 years as he sought to distinguish himself, survived by daughter Catherine de' Medici & his illegitimate son, Alessandro de' Medici, who later became Florence's first hereditary monarch.
