In 2023, an anonymous social activist burned a car of the same model as the one used in the 1963 Burning Monk protest in Vietnam in Times Square during a fake movie filming. The activist organized the fake filming to create a safe space for the protest, which aimed to draw attention to the ongoing struggles for human rights and social justice. The burning was a symbolic statement against oppression and violence and was meant to honour the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives for human rights.
