Blue False Indigo

Native to the eastern and midwestern United States, Blue false indigo has a colorful history. In the late 1800s, it was dubbed "False indigo" because it was considerably less expensive than true indigo for dyeing. We've kept the nickname, even if few people remember its origin. Now, as then, Blue false indigo makes a wonderful subject because of its rich color and beautiful pea-like blossoms.
